Dear Summit Parents,

Welcome to the new school year! We're thrilled to greet our 540 students and partner with you to make this a successful year of growth and learning for your children.

As your child transitions to our upper school, you can expect some changes. This is a significant step, and they will be gaining more independence and responsibility in preparation for junior high. Our goal is to guide them in developing strong academic habits and the accountability needed to have good character.

Throughout the year, students will navigate a new schedule, engage with a wider range of teachers and peers, begin to gain insight on themselves, and have friend group changes. This transition is an exciting time for them to grow as learners and individuals. Your support and high expectations at home make all the difference in helping them embrace these new challenges and opportunities.

Our Partnership for Success

We know that a strong partnership between home and school is key to your child's success.  We are dedicated to supporting your student as they grow, and here is how we will help:

  • Dedicated Staff Support: Our teachers, counselors, and support staff are here to help your child navigate their new academic and social landscape.  We will walk them through all of the changes as they occur, providing a nurturing and structured environment where they can feel safe to ask questions and take on new challenges.
  • Academic and Social-Emotional Learning: We have integrated opportunities that focus on developing self advocacy skills, time management, and positive peer relationships.  We will teach them how to balance their new academic workload and manage their emotions in a more complex school setting.
  • Open Communication: We are committed to effective school-to-parent communication. Teachers will keep you informed about important dates, school-wide updates, and your child's progress throughout the year. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

Your partnership is essential in this journey.  Here are a few ways you can help your student and our school community this year:

  • Establish a Routine: Help your child develop a consistent schedule for homework and studying.  This is a foundational habit for managing new responsibilities.
  • Encourage Independence: When your child has a question about an assignment, encourage them to reach out to their teacher first.  This helps them build responsibility and critical self-advocacy skills.
  • Stay Connected: Please attend our school events and conferences. These are great opportunities to stay informed and connect with teachers. We also encourage you to always reach out to a teacher or school staff member for their perspective when you have a question. Open communication helps us work together to support your child, especially as they learn to navigate different viewpoints and accountability.

We are so excited to see all that your children will accomplish this year and look forward to partnering with you on this journey.  Thank you for entrusting us with their education, and we look forward to a great year!

Working together,

Principal Ackerman

Hello Summit Families!

My name is Emily Myers, and I am the assistant principal at Summit Intermediate.  Our building is full of faculty and staff who love what they do, are about their students, and work daily to meet students' individual needs and help them become the best they can be!

Here at Summit, we value fostering a collaborative, safe, and positive learning environment that inspires students to take ownership over their learning and positively impact their community.  Our Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) program included both positive behavior and character development through Portrait of an Eagle. In Nixa, we strive to encourage and empower students to develop character alongside their academic growth as they prepare for their lives beyond school. We want students to be EAGLES - Empathetic, Adaptable, Genuinely Confident, Lifelong Critical Thinkers, and Effective Communicators! Students will be recognized for exhibiting these competencies in a variety of ways.

I look forward to working with you to support your child's educational experience.  Please don't hesitate to reach out if there is ever anything I can do for you.

Working Together,

Dr. Myers
